Camp Surf

Surf's Up!!

Camp Surf is the YMCA's own beachside camp facility!  The facility features nine open group cabins and lots of space for tents on the sand. This season we have reserved space for 155 cabin campers, and 55 beach campers. DO NOT WAIT TO SIGN UP, as cabin spaces will be most likely assigned on a first-come basis.

Camp Surf features all of the things you would expect, including surfboards and boogey boards for free use!

The facility also features a climbing tower, archery range, skate park, volleyball, gaga court, hiking trails and art center.

Camp Surf offers a first-rate camping experience!

You will enjoy cabin camping & tent camping on the beach, camp activities (*and ocean activities off-site)!

This is a combination Cabin Camping (144 total beds) and overflow tent camping on the beach, right next to the crashing waves of the Pacific!

WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS

  • Cabin camping (with some tent camping) at the beach with your Wildcat friends!

  • Meals included at Camp Surf!  Sat. breakfast through Sun. breakfast

  • Saturday night – Halloween costumes for the girls (bring those costumes)

  • Amazing Cottontails Haunted House   

  • Fun in the Sun at the beach!

  • Wildcat Traditions that you know and love!

 

Norm Gray & the Serrano Peppers are hosting and busy planning for this Wildcat weekend beach adventure!

CAMP SURF ACTIVITIES  

 

Staff-led activities – these will be assigned on a weekend schedule:

  • Surfing & bodyboarding – *Due to poor water conditions in Imperial Beach, there will be NO water play, surf, etc. @ the Camp Surf beach. Staff will travel with boards on Saturday to South Mission Beach)

  • Surf boards & body boards are available for your use (a number of boards will be transported from camp to S. Mission for your use).  Please leave fiberglass boards at home. Thank you! 

  • Archery

  • Climbing Tower

  • Skateboarding (bring your own equipment and use Camp Surf’s Halfpipe)

·         Arts & Crafts (lanyards, pipe cleaners, tie-dye, etc.)

Activities to enjoy “on your own:”

  • Hanging out on the beach and building sand castles

  • Beach Games

  • Take a short drive up to Coronado and spend the day seeing the sights!

CAMPGROUND INFO

​

  • Cabin camping & tent camping on the beach (cabins will be assigned in order of registration date)

  • If you prefer to camp in a tent on the beach, please let me know

  • See recommended packing list attached

  • No car camping, RV’s or trailers permitted  

  • Communal bathroom & shower facilities a short walk from the beach

  • Beach access: Due to poor water quality conditions, there will be no water play, surf, etc. at the Camp Surf beach

  • No-one will be permitted to go in the water at the Camp Surf beach

  • If you want to go swimming or ocean play on Friday after check-in day, it is advised that you go north to Coronado or past Point Loma, again check this site before you go: http://www.sdbeachinfo.com/

CHECK-IN INFO

  • Check-in, Friday, October 6th from 4:00pm-9:00pm. Park in the dirt lot and check in at the Office

·         Check-out, Sunday, October 8th @ 1:00pm 

·         Staffed activities are also open on SUNDAY from 10am-12noon (climbing wall, archery) for our use

  • All adults must have a valid photo ID (Driver’s License)

  • Check-in is MANDATORY for every guest (even the little ones!)

  • Camp staff will review basic safety rules and emergency information

MEALS

Meals are provided Saturday breakfast thru Sunday breakfast (Friday dinner is on your own)

You may bring your own small portable propane camping stoves, or charcoal grills to cook your own food. Please do not bring large smokers or grills that need to be towed. They do not have propane or gas hook-ups onsite. 

Friday night dinner is not provided.  Options for Friday include bringing food with you, walking into town (Mexican, Italian, Pizza, Thai, Burgers all within 5-10mins walk of Camp Surf) or having something delivered to you at camp. Just make sure you are in the parking lot when they arrive.

Major food allergies/medical conditions: The camp needs to know ahead of time about any life-threatening food allergies or special medical needs. 
Please reference your group name and dates you’re coming. We accommodate vegetarians and please communicate special needs to Karen Stanley and I will send to camp staff.

  

ITEMS TO BRING

See the attached packing lists for what to bring (especially hat, sunscreen and a water bottle).

If you bring it, you will need to carry it!

You may rent wet suits @ camp for $10 for the weekend for ocean activities

If this is your first campout of the season, please register for the Wildcat Club first, and then for the October, Camp Surfcampout.

Adult Y Member = $0       Adult Non-Y Member = $100

Child Y Member = $0       Child Non-Y Member = $0

 

Camp Surf Event Fee (this campout is cabin camping and includes (4) meals)

Adult Y Member = $225             Adult Non-Y Member = $248

Child Y Member = $225             Child Non-Y Member = $248

 

*The Y is for everyone, and financial assistance is available. Please reach out to me at tstong@ymcasd.org for Dream Catcher scholarship information.

 

If you are new to Wildcat, be sure that you are in communication with your Group Leader. They will provide you with important Group information.

 

Registered participants will receive updated roster, final agenda, site map & more the week of camp.
